5 Favorite Ways: Big Brush Markers
I just adore these Faber Castell markers. They aren’t cheap, but they are one of my very favorite things to use in Bible journaling. I have found them at Blick’s Art Supplies. There’s a Blick’s close to my house, so I got to look at all the pretty colors and pick. Plus, I didn’t have to wait for shipping. 🙂 Here are my five favorite ways to use them.
1) Smooshing technique: This is one of my favorite techniques to use with various materials. I have tried it with Gelatos and regular markers and even watercolors. One day mom and I were at the beach and we wanted to use the smooshing technique. I had left my gelatos at home, as well as normal markers. But, I had brought some of the Faber Castell big brush markers. We used some plastic wrap and smeared and sprayed with water.
2) Highlighter: My mom said these are too expensive to use as highlighters, but I just love the colors and the way they look. The lighter shades of the markers work way better as highlighters. The darker ones can cover the text a bit.
3) Stamping: I discovered this technique from another beach trip when I forgot ink! I had just purchased some new stamps, and I became so frustrated I forgot my black ink pad. Then, I remembered I had some Faber Castell markers. Mixing two blues together to make the clouds and mountain turned out so cool. The tie dye affect is really neat.
4) Smearing with a baby wipe: I have yet to see anyone use this technique before. I was inspired by one of Lindsey Decor‘s videos where she used a baby wipe with dry watercolors. Warning – someone asked me how this technique has impacted my markers and if it has damaged them. To be quite honest, I am not sure if it’s “good” for the markers or not. But, so far, they have not been damaged, and I love the soft look, so I don’t plan on stopping using this technique!
5) Coloring: There’s also the normal way of using them, like real markers! I have three examples. I’ve used them to color in stamps. I also have used them with stencils. And making fun shapes, like flowers!
I hope these ideas inspired you to use big brush markers in some new ways.
